Peer-based Skills Training to Enhance Teen Weight Loss
Elissa Jelalian, Ph.D. (PI)

The goals of this pilot project are to evaluate the utility of a peer-based intervention to enhance weight control and improve psychosocial functioning in overweight adolescents. Adolescents between the ages of thirteen and sixteen years, and 20% to 80% overweight, are randomly assigned to one of three treatment conditions. The next step in this line of research is to conduct a larger scale trial, with a longer follow-up period, to evaluate the effects of the peer-based intervention on initial weight loss and maintenance of weight loss.
