Development and Evaluation of a SlimFast Internet Behavioral Weight Loss Program
Principal Investigators: Rena Wing, Ph.D. & Deborah Tate, Ph.D.

Internet-based weight loss programs combined with dietary interventions such as SlimFast, may be extremely effective for the large number of individuals who want to lose weight on their own, without attending treatment meetings. However, research is needed to determine how to most effectively utilize the Internet to promote weight loss. This study compares three approaches to weight loss programs via internet with all groups using SlimFast as a component of the dietary intervention.

Detary Intervention Methods for Clinical Trials
Rena Wing, Ph.D. (PI)

This project will determine whether targeting a high exercise level and providing strong behavioral strategies to help achieve this goal will be effective in improving the long-term results of obesity treatment.

National Weight Control Registry
Rena Wing, Ph.D. (PI)

The National Weight Control Registry (NWCR) established by Wing and Hill in 1993 has been extremely useful in increasing understanding of weight loss maintenance. The registry has over 3,000 individuals who have lost at least thirty lbs. (mean = 66 lbs.) and kept it off at least one year (mean = 6 years). The overall aim of this project is to improve data collection procedures in the NWCR to make this unique resource more valuable for studies of long-term weight loss maintenance.

Study of Health Outcomes of Weight Loss - SHOW Trial
Rena Wing, Ph.D. (PI of TMH site, Chair of national study.)

The purpose of this study is to investigate the health outcomes of long-term weight loss and maintenance.

Study to Prevent Regain (STOP Regain)
Rena Wing, Ph.D. (PI)

This project will develop an intervention for the prevention of weight regain following weight loss. Two approaches will be examined - an internet intervention and a face-to-face program.
