Dr. Hogan is Associate Professor of Biostatistics in the Department of Community Health at Brown. His main focus of research is on statistical methodology for longitudinal data, with emphasis on methods for handling missing data and nonrandomized treatments (e.g. clinical trials with noncompliance and observational studies). His current work in HIV/AIDS concerns analysis of complex longitudinal data, such as development of models for the joint evolution of CD4 count and viral load, and methods for estimating the therapeutic effect of HAART from observational studies. This work is being funded by a grant from the NIAID, ‘Analyzing Multiple Process Data in HIV/AIDS’, for which Dr. Hogan is the principal investigator. Dr. Hogan also is lead statistician for several other funded projects in HIV/AIDS, behavioral medicine, and reproductive health.

In addition to his research program, Dr. Hogan teaches both introductory and advanced courses and supervises Ph.D. dissertations in Brown’s graduate program in Biostatistics. He serves on the editorial board of three journals, Biometrics, Biostatistics, and Lifetime Data Analysis, and is a member of the Clinical Trials Advisory Board for NICHD’s Reproductive Medicine Network
