Dr. Wanke graduated from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine in 1980. After internship, residency and chief residency in internal medicine at George Washington University Medical Center, she completed a fellowship in infectious disease at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. During her fellowship she worked internationally on projects related to persistent diarrheal disease and malnutrition in children in Bangladesh and Brazil. She was on the Infectious Disease Staff at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and as Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School from 1987-1998 when she came to Tufts, where she is a Professor of Medicine. Currently she is principal investigator on an NIH R01 looking at cardiovascular risk in HIV infection and the Associate Director of the program project grant on Nutrition and HIV Infection. She is the Director of the T-NEMC clinical HIV program and the PI of an NIH funded clinical HIV training grant. Her research interests are in intestinal function, diarrheal disease, malnutrition and metabolic disorders in HIV infection as well as issues in international HIV infection. Dr. Wanke has published over 90 papers. She is an associate editor of CLINICAL INFECTIOUS DISEASES, and serves on the editorial board of AIDS. At the Medical School, she is the Director of the Division of Nutrition and Infection and holds appointments in the Departments of Community Health, Medicine, and at the School of Veterinary Medicine.
