Funds raised support essential hospital services including the intensive care unit
On Thursday, July 11, Newport Hospital hosted its 2013 fundraising gala and auction—A Seaside Summer Evening Celebrating the van Beuren Charitable Foundation—at Ochre Court in Newport. The event gathered 360 friends and supporters and raised more than $390,000 to benefit Newport Hospital patients and families.
“The van Beuren family and Newport Hospital have enjoyed a long and close relationship for many years. We share the vision to improve the quality of life for all the residents of Newport County,” said August B. Cordeiro, president of Newport Hospital. “The generosity and involvement of this remarkable family date back several generations and have allowed Newport Hospital to grow and flourish with the latest in technology and innovative programs and services. They are a wonderful partner.”
Proceeds from the live auction will support Newport Hospital’s intensive care unit. “The ICU is where our most critically ill patients are treated. To continuously provide leading-edge care, our ICU staff needs the most advanced and specialized equipment,” said Terrence R. McWilliams, M.D., Newport Hospital’s vice president of medical affairs. “We are grateful for the support of the community for ensuring our staff’s ability to provide the most comprehensive care possible.”
Guests enjoyed cocktails and dinner by Russell Morin Fine Catering, a live auction presented by C. Hugh Hildesley of Sotheby’s, a video tribute to the van Beuren Charitable Foundation, and music by the Dick Lupino Band. The honorary chairs of the event were Angela B. Fischer and Dorrance H. Hamilton, and the many corporate and individual sponsors included Platinum Sponsor Jay and Suzie Schochet along with Rick Henken, CEO of The Schochet Companies; Gold Sponsor Diane B. Wilsey; and Silver Sponsor Newport Emergency Physicians, Inc.
