Volunteers needed for inpatient behavioral health unit
The inpatient behavioral health unit at Newport Hospital is seeking volunteers as part of the unit’s recreational therapy program.
The hospital is seeking volunteers who can play an instrument or lead a music group, such as guitar players who can lead sing-a-longs. Volunteers with experience in leading art groups, yoga classes, meditation, drumming, crafts, cooking and nutrition groups are also encouraged. All volunteers will be supported by the recreational therapy and nursing staff.
Volunteers are asked to make a twice-a-month commitment on Tuesdays, Thursdays or Fridays. They should plan to volunteer for at least one hour between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Interested applicants can visit www.newporthospital.org to complete the on-line application or call 845-4244 to receive an application by mail. All are welcome to attend the next Volunteer Information Session on December 3 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the Gudoian Conference Center. All volunteer applicants are required to participate in an interview, criminal background check, provide two professional references and complete the mandatory health screening.
