Information for Visitors
Critical Care Visiting Hours
Critical care medicine at Rhode island Hospital is very familiy-focused.
Family members may visit with patients in the critical care units
anytime, 24 hours a day, and are welcome to stay with patients during
medical procedures and be involved in patient care.
Visitor Guidelines
- Please do not bring food or drinks into patient rooms.
Family members can eat and drink in the unit's family room and
waiting room. Refreshments are available on the first floor of
the Main Building and the first floor of the Cooperative Care
Center.
- Please stop at the desk and check with the secretary
before entering patient rooms.
- We ask that patients have only two visitors at a time.
- Please limit the use of colognes when you visit. Many
of our patients are here because of breathing problems.
- For the same reason, no flowers are allowed in patient
rooms.
- Please wait in the waiting room, not in the hallways.
Hallways must be kept open in case of emergencies.
- Children can visit patients; please discuss this with
the nurse caring for your loved one.
- Pets are also allowed to visit the unit with prior permission
from the nursing staff. Proof of up-to-date vaccinations is required.
- Each patient room has a television; visitors are welcome to
bring in tape/CD players so patients can listen to music.
- The critical care physicians are available for questions
after 2 p.m. daily. The attending physician will speak to each
family within 24 hours of admission to the unit, and by appointment.
Patient confidentiality is always respected.
We realize that it is difficult to leave your loved one.
Patients need rest, and so do you. Please know we will contact you
with any changes. Please contact us with
any questions
