The Louise Wilcox ALS Center
The Louise Wilcox ALS Center offers a specialized program of care that
utilizes a multidisciplinary approach for the evaluation and management of
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
The purpose of the center is to enable the patient to maintain a maximum
level of neurological functioning in a supportive and understanding environment.
George Sachs, MD, a neurologist specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of
ALS, is the center's medical director. The center provides assistance in the
management of the physical, psychological and social conditions related to ALS.
The multidisciplinary staff consists of
representatives from neurology, pulmonology, occupational therapy, physical
therapy, nursing, speech pathology and social work.
Location
The Louise Wilcox ALS Center meets monthly in the Medical Office Building, 2
Dudley Street, Providence, on the Rhode Island Hospital campus. On the last
Friday of every month Suite 555 at the Neurology Foundation will be devoted to
the Louise Wilcox ALS Center from 1 to 4 p.m.
