Balance Disorders Program
The balance disorders program at Rhode Island Hospital treats patients with a
variety of
balance disorders. Each participant's evaluation includes an assessment of:
- sensation
- pain
- range of motion
- strength
- mobility
- coordination

- posture
- gait
- balance
- fall risk
- home environment
|
The information from the assessment will be used to develop a plan of
treatment, which generally includes treatment in the physical therapy department
as well as instruction in a home exercise program.
Treatment can consist of:
- strengthening and flexibility exercises
- balance and gait exercises
- instruction in use of assistive devices
- education in safety and preventive measures
