Physical and Occupational Therapy
Aquatic Therapy Program
The aquatic therapy program provides
individualized treatment in an environment where exercises are designed
to assist the patient in developing an in-depth kinesthetic awareness
of the neutral spine position and the ability to maintain that position
in any posture or activity.
It also uses water to provide
a buoyant, hydrostatic and viscous environment where exercises can
be done for various diagnoses such as:
- arthritis
- post total joint
surgery
- fibromyalgia and
- neurological disorders
Rhode Island Hospital
was the first hospital in southern New England to be equipped with
a state-of-the art SwimEx therapeutic pool, pictured above. The hydrodynamic
design of the multi-depth pool generates water resistance and current. It can be used for rehabilitation and training for all types of clients.
