Recovering from Surgery: Follow-up Care
Discharge from the hospital is usually 24 to 36 hours after the procedure. If you are not ready for discharge or not up to it, you will not be discharged. Do not worry about early discharge. Usually you will be seen in the morning by the residents and a laparoscopic surgery fellow. They will report any problems to your surgeon.
If you want to go home before you see your doctor, you can if you have been cleared for discharge. Your surgeon will, however, see you on the day after surgery if you are still in the hospital.
Follow-up Appointments
Call the office at 401-553-8310 after you get home to make arrangements for a follow-up visit and to let us know how you are doing. Unless your physician instructs you otherwise, your first appointment should be in one to two weeks from your discharge from the hospital.
