Collis Cardiac Surgery Research Laboratory
Our
surgeons are committed to continually studying and evaluating new
methods of surgical treatment and improving our patients' surgical
outcomes through clinical and experimental research. Because of
our committment to research, patients may benefit from therapies
that are not available elsewhere. As a leader in cardiac research,
Rhode Island Hospital extends the benefits of its research to pediatric
patients as well.
Current research studies being funded include:
- bioengineered heart valves for both pediatric and adult use
(permanent living heart valve replacement)
- gene therapy for congestive heart failure
- endocardial laser ablation for arrhythmias
Easy Access
Most referring physicians will call a surgeon directly, but the
1-888-CVT-SURG line is available for those who want to reach
the division of cardiothoracic surgery, a specific doctor or need
information. Answered by a trained cardiac secretary, this service
will refer a patient for a specific procedure or to a specific surgeon.
