Breast Imaging
Information for patients

The Digital Advantage
Rhode Island Hospital is first hospital in Rhode Island to offer digital mammography. With digital mammography, the images can be stored and transferred via computer, and physicians can use specialized software to help interpret results. In a study, digital mammography was shown to detect up to 28 percent more cancers in some women.

Breast imaging is a specialized field in radiology that studies the breast. In some patients, procedures are performed in the breast imaging division to either obtain a sample of tissue or to help find an abnormality in the breast for the surgeon. All breast imaging at Rhode Island Hospital is performed by board-certified radiologists with subspecialty training in this area.

The Anne C. Pappas Center for Breast Imaging at Rhode Island Hospital is a full service breast imaging facility staffed by radiologists with special expertise in breast imaging and is designed to provide quality, state of the art breast imaging and intervention.
