Bacterial Vaginosis
Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is the most common vaginal infection in women.
BV occurs when bacteria in the vagina becomes overgrown.
Symptoms of BV
- White or gray vaginal discharge that may have an unpleasant
odor
- Burning during urination
- Itching around the vagina
Prevent BV
- Abstain from sex or be in a monogamous relationship
- Do not douche
- Do not use an intrauterine device (IUD) for birth control
Treatment of BV includes:
- Antibiotics: metronidazole or clindamycin
- Finish all of the prescribed medicine, even if symptoms go
away
- BV may recur after treatment
