Description
Using a risk and resilience theoretical model and a multi-method approach, this study identifies protective factors of the child, cultural context, and the asthma management process that minimize asthma morbidity for urban children who face multiple risks. Families participate in two research sessions and 3 phone follow-ups. Families with children who are between 7 and 12 can participate.
Significance
Implications from this project include the identification of: 1) underlying mechanisms associated with minimizing asthma morbidity that may ultimately decrease the health care disparity, and 2) processes to make asthma interventions more culturally appropriate, hence potentially addressing the disparity.
