Description
This project seeks to compare a novel family therapy based crisis intervention to standard community based treatments for children who have recently disclosed sexual abuse. The family support intervention is centered on maximizing the validation that a child experiences from the available social network in response to the abuse. It is not known what is the best way to treat children who have been sexually abused. It is clear that sexual abuse in childhood can have devastating short and long term psychological consequences.

Significance
This research can point towards the most effective means of minimizing the short and long term negative outcomes for child victims of sexual abuse.
