Description
This is a five-year outcome study of 135 youth, ages 7 to 17, with
obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) who are partially responsive
to selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor pharmacotherapy. In collaboration
with the University of Pennsylvania and Duke University, this study
aims to evaluate the relative efficacy of a two-doctor treatment
model and one-doctor treatment model. In the two-doctor model, a
psychiatrist manages medication for OCD and a psychologist administers
cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). In the one-doctor model, both
medication and a form of CBT are administered by a psychiatrist.
Significance
This study may help develop more effective treatment options for
children with OCD, especially those who only partially respond to
one form of medication.
