This is a pilot study.
Description
This study analyzes adolescent inpatients’ medication compliance and relationship to suicidality, which was conceptualized after the FDA began placing “black-box warnings” on SSRI’s following posited associations between suicidality and SSRI’s in children. Patients admitted to the Bradley Hospital Adolescent Unit are screened for medication prescriptions and adherence. They are asked to recall, over the five weeks prior to their admission, whether they were fully compliant, partially compliant, or not at all compliant with medication. Patients are also assessed for suicidal ideation using the Suicide Severity Rating Scale (to determine whether they have thoughts about being dead, non-specific active suicidal thoughts, active thoughts without a plan, or active suicidal ideation with a plan), and are also asked more specific questions about their suicidal feelings.
Significance
This study will analyze the relationship between medication compliance and suicidality in adolescent inpatients.
