Therapeutic Schools: Affect Management and HIV Prevention
Principal Investigator
Larry Brown, MD
Funding Source
National Institute of Mental Health
Description
This two-site project will compare an HIV intervention that targets
emotion regulation as related to sexual behavior and risk taking
to a primarily skills-based HIV prevention intervention and a health
promotion intervention for adolescents in therapeutic schools. The
collaborating site is the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Significance
Emotion regulation in sexual situations is an important component
of decreasing HIV-risk behaviors. Arming at-risk adolescents with
these necessary skills will help to decrease the incidence of HIV
risk behaviors.
