Gun Safety Tips
A gun in the home can be particularly dangerous for young children, who
can unintentionally hurt themselvesin 1994, more than 1,300 children
died from being unintentionally shot with a firearm. Guns can also be
dangerous for teens who may be going through typical adolescent problems
and may feel as though life is not worth living.
Each year, more people
die from firearm-related suicides than firearm-related homicides. The best
idea is not to keep a firearm in a home with children, but if you must have a gun in the home, we recommend
these steps
for safe storage:
- store your handgun and ammunition separately
- lock
up the ammunition
- use a trigger lock or locked box to store the handgun
