Treating Patients with Cancer

"When I found out I had breast cancer, I was panicked and scared…they somehow were able to make me feel comfortable."
                             -- a grateful patient

A cancer diagnosis can be devastating for a patient. Our philosophy is to treat the entire person, being mindful of the patient's psychological as well as physical needs. A hallmark of our approach is multidisciplinary teamwork-- ongoing, close collaboration with primary care physicians, surgeons and medical oncologists to ensure that patient care is fully integrated from the very beginning.

The true crossroads of the Comprehensive Cancer Center, the department of radiation oncology works with all other departments in the center to provide a full spectrum of care. Our patient care teams include:

  • Medical oncologists
  • Radiation oncologists
  • Medical physicists
  • Radiology technologists
  • Nurses and nurse practitioners
  • Social worker
  • Nutritionists
  • Surgeons

These teams of dedicated specialists have expertise well beyond the capabilities found at most hospitals. Each of our health care professionals has knowledge about and experience in caring for cancer patients. We customize the course of each patient's therapy, treat all types of cancer in patients of all ages, and are the only radiation oncology facility in the area with a high level of specialization in pediatric radiation oncology.

The radiation oncology team at the Comprehensive Cancer Center offers the most innovative diagnostic methods and treatments—many that are not available elsewhere in the region.
