Our Services
The
gastrointestinal cancer care services available through the Comprehensive
Cancer Center provide care for patients who have or are at risk
for the following types of cancer:
- bile duct (cholangiocarcinoma)
- esophagus
- gallbladder
- endocrine and cystic tumors of the pancreas
- liver
- pancreas
- stomach
- periampullary
Comprehensive Care
Gastrointestinal cancer care available through the Comprehensive
Cancer Center's gastrointestinal clinics ranges from the screening
of high-risk individuals to the most innovative treatments, including
investigational therapies to patients with advanced cancers. Our
services include:
- one-time consultation, evaluation and second opinions
- genetic counseling/risk assessment and genetic testing for
patients and family members
- screening and diagnostic tests
- innovative treatments, encompassing the most recent advances
in surgery, image-guided therapy, chemotherapy and radiation
therapy
- access to the latest treatment through clinical research trials
developed by our clinical investigators, the Brown University
Oncologic Group (BrUOG), as well as trials sponsored by the
National Cancer Institute, collaborative national groups, and
the pharmaceutical industry
- development of a long-term care plan and follow-up care, including
palliative care (symptom management) for existing patients
- access to patient support services of the Comprehensive Cancer
Center, including social work, specialized nursing care, physical
and occupational therapy, patient education resources and support
groups
