Winter Survival Guide:
Fireproof Your Home

The risk of house fires increases during the winter months. Here's how you can avoid a disaster:
  • Always supervise children around flammable objects. Keep matches and other objects out of their reach.

  • Install smoke detectors and check the batteries monthly

  • Never smoke in bed and remember to extinguish cigarettes when you finish smoking

  • Keep space heaters at least three feet from curtains, clothing or furniture

  • Do not using kerosene lanterns or stoves indoors

  • Don't use your oven to heat your home, or leave the oven or other cooking devices on and unattended.

  • Do not leave a clothes dryer on if no one is in the house.

  • During the holidays, never leave lighted candles unattended, use decorations that remain cool when lit, and don't overload electrical outlets.
