Archival Communications System
The Picture Archival Communications System (PACS) is in
place at Lifespan’s three acute care hospitals. PACS replaces
hard copies of film by storing and communicating digital radiology
images, such as CT or MRI scans. These images are immediately available
to physicians, so a patient can get a definitive diagnosis more
quickly.
Physicians can access PACS from any computer in the hospital or in physicians’ offices; it is also available through Lifelinks to physicians practicing in the community.
