Diabetes Signals
One out of every 16 Rhode Islanders has diabetes. The
most common form is Type 2 diabetes, which generally occurs in people over
age 45 and is associated with obesity. Those with a family history of
diabetes also are more likely to have this disease, as are those of
African or Japanese descent, Native Americans and Hispanics.
If you have any of the following
warning signs,
consult your doctor:
- frequent urination
- unusual thirst
- extreme hunger
- unusual weight loss
- extreme fatigue
- irritability
- frequent infections
- blurred vision
- cuts and bruises that heal slowly
- numbness in hands or feet
- recurring skin, gum and bladder infections
