Timothy Flanigan, MD
As
director of the Samuel and Esther Chester Immunology Center at
The Miriam Hospital, Timothy Flanigan, MD, has been
instrumental in creating a health care network for area residents
and prison inmates who suffer from substance abuse and AIDS.

- Flanigan is an infectious diseases specialist
on staff at The Miriam. He holds a medical degree from Cornell
University.
- The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation recently
awarded Flanigan $100,000 for his treatment and
prevention programs to serve local poor, largely minority
residents who are HIV-positive or at risk for infection.
Originally targeted to women, the programs have expended to
serve 650 women, men and teenagers, and the center's staff
has grown from 4 to 50.
- Flanigan has also been instrumental in the
development of local RISE and STARKIDS programs, which place
and support the children of incarcerated mothers in small,
effective, private schools, with the help of a sponsor.
