Benjamin Walker, MD, is chairman of emergency medicine at Newport Hospital. He has been with the hospital since 1994 and has been department chairman since 1997. Walker attended medical school at the College of Physicians and Surgeons (Columbia University) and completed a residency in emergency medicine at the Joint Military Medical Centers in San Antonio, Texas.

Other Facts:

  • Walker is residency trained and board certified in emergency medicine 
  • He is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians. 
  • He is a past president of the Rhode Island Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians.

Newport Hospital's emergency department, which includes seven physicians and two physician assistants, treated more than 28,000 people last year. The department will move into the hospital's new Alletta Morris Building in September. 

"The staff is tremendously excited about the move," says Walker. "The new space and equipment will enable us to increase efficiency, enhance patient comfort, and improve the quality of care."
