Outpatient Pulmonary Health
and Rehabilitation Program
This rehabilitation program is designed for people who have limited
mobility and difficulty exercising because of below-average lung
functioning.
How it works
The program includes an initial evaluation followed by 8 weeks of
exercise and educational sessions. Therapists tailor a safe, aerobic
program to each participant's needs, based on an initial exercise
tolerance test. The goal is to exercise intermittently for 60 minutes.
Clinical protocols follow the American Association of Cardiovascular and
Pulmonary Rehabilitation Guidelines, the standards from the American
College of Sports Medicine and the Physical Therapy Practice Act. Patients
with cardiac co-morbidity are referred for a graded exercise test,
supervised by a cardiologist.
Where and when
The program runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon to 4 p.m.
at the Center for Cardiac Fitness.
The center is a state-of-the-art facility with exercise and EKG
monitoring equipment appropriate for participants with cardiopulmonary
disease.
