More about the quality of Stroke care at Newport Hospital
Why Is This Treatment Important?
The administration of thrombolytic agents to eligible patients with acute ischemic stroke has been beneficial in several clinical trials. Based on the results of these studies, the Food and Drug Administration approved the use of IV t-PA for the treatment of acute ischemic stroke when given within 3 hours of symptom onset. While some controversy still exists among some specialists, the major society practice guidelines all recommend the use of IV t-PA for eligible patients. Physicians with experience and skill in stroke management and the interpretation of CT scans should supervise treatment.
What the Scores Mean
A higher percentage is good because it means more patients received the recommended treatment. However, a lower score does not necessarily indicate poor care. You should consider the overall quality of a facility in addition to individual category scores.
