  • Workforce S.T.A.T. (Solutions, Training and Teamwork) Program

  • The Workforce S.T.A.T. program is designed, in partnership with Homefront Health Care, to meet the needs of the health care industry by transitioning – in an accelerated manner – a group of unemployed or underemployed entry-level Rhode Islanders into a prepared, focused, well-qualified Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) workforce. Upon completion of this 4-month program, participants earn their Rhode Island CNA license, BLS certification and work readiness credentials. Program graduates may be considered for future employment at a Lifespan affiliate or Homefront Health Care facility.

    Governor's Workforce Board

    The fall session will take 16 to 18 weeks to complete.
    The free CNA course will take place at Homefront Health Care’s Providence office.  
    The unpaid internship will be offered at Rhode Island Hospital and Newport Hospital.
    (We are no longer accepting applications for those interested in interning at Rhode Island Hospital)

    • Fall Session:
      August 24 – October 15, 2015
      Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
    • Internship Schedule:
      October 19 – December 18, 2015
      Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

    Program Description

    The Workforce S.T.A.T. Program participants are provided with:

    • A free 8-week CNA course offered by Homefront Health Care leading to state-administered exam and licensure
    • Followed by a 6-week internship at Lifespan consisting of 96 hours of advanced CNA training and structured work-readiness workshops
    • Practical work experience and networking opportunities to prepare for a successful future
    • Mentorship under professional career experts
    • The possibility of employment upon completion of the program

    Eligibility

    Participants must:

    • Be at least 18 years of age
    • Be underemployed/unemployed Rhode Island resident
    • Be able to pass a BCI (criminal background check)
    • Read at a seventh grade level, and have earned either a high school diploma or a GED certificate
    • Possess a willingness to learn along with the ability to attend all classes, internship hours and workshops.
    • Be interested in pursuing a career in health care

    How to Apply

    Applications for the 2015-2016 Workforce S.T.A.T. (Solutions, Training and Teamwork) Program are now being accepted. Applications must be filled out and submitted online.
    How to apply:

    1. Interested applicants residing on or near Aquidneck Island must attend one of the following information sessions at Newport Hospital in the MacLaurin Building, Room 3130 (RSVP not necessary).
               Wednesday, August 12th 8:30am – 11:00am or 12:30pm – 3:00pm or 3:30pm – 6:00pm
    2. Only applicants who meet the eligibility criteria listed above will be considered for an interview.
    3. If you are selected for an interview, you will receive a call from a Lifespan human resources representative.
    4. If you are not selected for an interview, you will be notified by email.
