  • Bridge Building Expansion

  • The Bridge Building expansion, which opened in November 2008, provides three new inpatient floors comprising state-of-the-art technology and spacious patient rooms.

The fifth floor of the expansion provides 34 beds, with ten dedicated to coronary care and six others available to be converted as needed. The sixth and seventh floors contain 38 spacious inpatient rooms.

Highlights of the new space include:

    • Integrated cardiac care, with the emergency room, catherization lab, coronary care and intermediate coronary care units in close proximity, ensures prompt, thorough care.
    • New patient rooms, with a total of 72 beds, including 10 dedicated to coronary care. In addition to privacy, comfort and convenience, each room offers the latest medical technology, including a patient-lift rail system. This lift can support up to 625 pounds, which allows patients to be moved more safely and comfortably.
    • Wireless internet access is available in the rooms and waiting areas.
    • Advanced networking and wireless communication systems enable physicians and other staff to instantly view a patient's medical record, including tests previously performed at Rhode Island Hospital and other Lifespan hospitals.
    • Wireless glucometers on every floor instantly transmit the results of patient blood glucose tests to the hospital's labs, and to the hospital's electronic clinical records system, Lifelinks.
