David B. Abrams, PhD, is a professor of psychiatry and human behavior and professor of community health at Brown Medical School. He was the founding director of the Centers for Behavioral and Preventive Medicine at The Miriam Hospital. Abrams has spent his career conducting research in behavioral and preventive medicine with an emphasis on risk factors. His current research includes: 1) basic mechanisms in the comorbidity of nicotine, alcohol, and mood; 2) evaluating behavioral and pharmacological treatments for nicotine addiction; 3) etiology of youth tobacco initiation; and 4) delivery of effective and efficient interventions for cancer and cardiovascular disease prevention. He is interested in creating an educational climate that fosters transdisciplinary integration between biomedical, behavioral, and public health disciplines. Abrams is a member of the Board of Scientific Advisors for the NCI, co-director of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's Tobacco Etiology Research Network, and President of the Society of Behavioral Medicine.
