How to Host Your Own Lemonade Stand
Before You Get Started
- First Thing First: The first step in hosting a Bradley Hospital Lemonade Stand is to determine what kind of event you'd like to have. Brainstorm whether you envision a large community-based event, or a smaller event in your front yard. Based on your answers, decide whether you need to recruit volunteers. Remember to make it manageable to your abilities and needs!
- Select a Stand Location: After deciding how large your event will be, decide what location will best suited to your stand. If you decide you need more space than your front yard can provide, think of some other options. A few quick alternate locations may include: a mall, a school or college, an athletic field, a park or playground, a supermarket, or any other public and easily accessible place.
Get Approval: After you have chosen a potential location, you will need to determine who to contact in order to receive permission to hold your stand or event there. If it is a private location, such as a supermarket or shopping area, speak with the business owner or manager. If it is a public location, such as a park or school, inquire with the town or other public agency that manages the location.
Once your event details are sent to us for approval, we can provide a letter of endorsement from Bradley to help with the process of town/location approval and any donations you may be soliciting. You can display the letter at your stand for the general public to see, so they can understand that your fundraising effort has been approved by Bradley Hospital.
- Select a Date and Time: When picking a date, consider the following: Can I get volunteers that day? Are there other events taking place that day that may affect my stand, perhaps a parade or a graduation? And don't forget to choose a rain date, just in case.
- Set a Goal for Your Stand: Set a goal that is reasonable and achievable! We want you to succeed, and most importantly, have fun!
- Make it Personal: One effective way to make your stand successful is to make it as personal as possible. Get your family and community involved. Add your name to the stand, decorate it to make it distinctive, or even give your stand a name of its own!
Let Everyone Know: The more people that know about your stand and the more opportunities they have to support it, the more money you will raise. Talk up your event: send emails, send letters, make sure to tell your classmates, teachers and friends. Parents, you can do your part by telling your neighbors, co-workers and other acquaintances.
