Man to Man: Prostate Cancer Support Group

dad and little girl

The American Cancer Society, in conjunction with Rhode Island Hospital is offering Man to Man, a free public education and group support program for men dealing with prostate cancer.

Spouses are encouraged to attend. Free parking has been arranged and refreshments will be served.

The Man to Man support group is designed to provide an opportunity for men facing prostate cancer, to talk openly with each other and health care professionals about their concerns.

The program goals are (1) Awareness: to promote awareness of prostate cancer as a major health concern for all men, (2) Patient education: to provide accurate information about diagnosis and treatment options for men with prostate cancer, and (3) Support: to provide support, encouragement and solutions to common problems associated with prostate cancer.

Prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer among American men. Approximately one in every 10 men will develop prostate cancer by the age of 85. About 800 new cases of prostate cancer will be diagnosed in Rhode Island men in 2002. Since new diagnosis and treatment methods are constantly being developed, patients need accurate information to help them decide about their course of treatment.
