During my time at Newport Hospital, I have had wonderful opportunities to advance my career. After I started working at the hospital as a surgical technologist, I decided to take advantage of the hospital's tuition assistance. I pursued an associate's degree in nursing from CCRI, which I completed in 2003.
I then attended Northeastern University in Boston, and earned an RN First Assistant (RNFA) certificate in 2007. This certification allows me to assist surgeons in an expanded perioperative nursing role during surgery.
Elizabeth Lamonde, then Director of Surgical Services, encouraged by me to further my education even more, so I pursued a bachelor's of science in nursing degree from Salve Regina University. My coursework at Salve Regina, which I completed in May 2009, was funded entirely by a grant from Newport Hospital.
Those in leadership at Newport Hospital have been wonderful in encouraging me to broaden my knowledge, add to my skills, and advance my career. I am very proud of what I have accomplished since coming to Newport Hospital, and I am a better nurse, too. As I have found, education is very important when you work at a Magnet hospital. If you want to further your career, Newport Hospital will help make it happen!
