After spending time in the ICU for complications due to obesity, record producer Adrian Price sought the help of The Miriam Hospital's bariatric surgery program and regained his health.

For many obese patients, long-term, sustained weight loss can be elusive, despite strict diet and exercise programs. Many struggle daily with their weight and related medical conditions such as high blood pressure, sleep apnea and diabetes, as well as with the stigma of obesity.

To provide additional help for these patients, The Center for Bariatric Surgery in Providence, RI, a program of Rhode Island Hospital and The Miriam Hospital, offers new hope and a long-term solution. Bariatrics is the field of medicine that specializes in treating obesity, and bariatric surgery refers to surgery that promotes weight loss.

If you are interested in bariatric surgery and would like to begin an evaluation, call 401-793-3922 to request a bariatric surgery questionnaire.

The Center for Bariatric Surgery has been recognized for high quality care in bariatric surgery by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), which designated the program a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence. The ASMBS Bariatric Surgery Centers of Excellence program was created to recognize surgical programs with a demonstrated track record of excellence in providing superior and comprehensive bariatric surgery care.

The designation comes after a lengthy and rigorous review process by the accrediting organization for the ASMBS, which involves a thorough site inspection and evaluation of patient outcomes. The designation reflects our center’s ongoing commitment to providing the highest level of care possible for our bariatric surgery patients.
