  • Joseph Fava, PhD

  • Joseph L. Fava, PhD, is a research associate at the Centers for Behavioral and Preventive Medicine and the Weight Control and Diabetes Research Center at The Miriam Hospital. Fava is a quantitative psychologist and specializes in measure development, structural equation modeling, and multivariate statistics. He has over twenty years of research experience as a co-investigator and statistician on more than 30 funded research projects in a broad range of behavioral health areas, including the areas of weight reduction and weight maintenance, HIV prevention, smoking cessation, dietary behavior, exercise, stress management and multiple risk behavior interventions with both adult and adolescent populations. Fava has helped to develop measures that assess a variety of psychological, health policy and educational constructs, including the specific areas of stress management, perceived stress and coping, constructs related to microbicide use for HIV protection, smoking cessation, smoking policy, dietary behavior, user acceptability of interactive health technology, employee participation in worksite health programs and alcohol intervention.
