  • Fellowship in Women's Imaging

  • The Department of Diagnostic Imaging at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University offers two fellowship positions dedicated to Women's Imaging each academic year.

This one year fellowship will provide nine months of comprehensive training in all aspects of breast imaging, including screening and diagnostic digital mammography, breast ultrasound, MRI and interventional breast procedures including stereotactic, ultrasound-guided, and MRI-guided breast biopsy. The remaining three months will provide additional experience in obstetrical and gynecological imaging, including high risk obstetrical ultrasound and pelvic MRI. Educational time will be divided equally between Rhode Island Hospital and Women and Infants' Hospital, the two major teaching affiliates of Brown University. Both hospitals feature state-of-the-art imaging equipment, including digital mammography. The Anne C. Pappas Breast Center of Rhode Island Hospital performs over 18,000 breast imaging examinations annually. Women and Infants' Hospital, a dedicated women's hospital with national reputation, performs over 56,000 radiologic examinations annually.

Fellows will have the opportunity to participate in multi-disciplinary breast and gynecologic oncology tumor boards at both institutions. Ample opportunities also exist for research participation. All fellows will have an academic appointment at Brown University which provides access to all of the university's diverse resources.

Providence, the capital of Rhode Island is conveniently located one hour from Boston, and three and one-half hours from New York city, and is a pleasant and affordable historic city in which to live.

    Accommodations and Benefits

Rhode Island Hospital provides all fellows with professional liability insurance and limited physician registration in the state. The fellowship includes four weeks of paid vacation during the year. Although the hospital does not provide housing for residents or fellows, the Department of Medical Education has been successful in assisting house officers to find suitable accommodations in the community. Rhode Island Hospital house staff have teaching appointments at Brown University, which provides access to the university's educational and athletic facilities.
