Health Education and Lecture Programs

  • Diabetes Outpatient Education
    Open to all people with diabetes and their families, this program is offered in six sessions of an hour and one-half each. Numerous topics are covered during the sessions, including a beginning survey, types of diabetes, nutritional management, exercise benefits, medications, self-monitoring, and community resources. Check the Lifespan.org calendar for upcoming diabetes education programs and support group meetings.
  • Healthwise for Life
    The mission of HealthwiseÃ’ is to help people make better health decisions. The workshop articipants learn to:
    • Prevent health problems with good self-care, self-management and wellness behaviors
    • Avoid unnecessary care through evidence-based decision making
    • Link to HealthwiseÃ’ Knowledgebase (online source): comprehensive, up-to-date, credible, evidence-based, consumer friendly health information.
    • Take home the HealthwiseÃ’ Handbook. This will help people deal with common health problems, partner with their doctors, live better with chronic disease, stay healthy and avoid unnecessary costs.
  • Safe Sitter - Essential skills for kids ages 11-14
    Safe Sitter is more than just a babysitting course. Sponsored by Hasbro Children's Hospital and Lifespan, the program covers a range of topics over two days, advocating safe child care, good parenting skills and responsible adolescents.

  • Emergency Cardiovascular Care Program for Kids
    Lifespan Community Health Services is offering a free, 45-minute class on emergency cardiac care for school children, Teaching Children to Save Lives.

  • HiTECH Heart Program
    The HiTECH Heart program (Help in Teaching Elementary Children about Healthy Hearts) is a free multilesson, introductory series designed to help elementary school students discover how the heart works and how to use healthy behaviors to care for it.
