Lifespan Malpractice Plan

The Lifespan Malpractice Plan (LMP) provides insurance coverage to all entities within the Lifespan system, as well as to eligible physician groups.

Background

A medical malpractice self insurance trust fund that was formed in 1977 was replaced by a captive insurance company in 1990.  The captive, R.I. Sound Enterprises Insurance Co. Ltd. (RISE), is wholly owned by Lifespan and is domiciled in Hamilton, Bermuda.  RISE covers the professional liability (medical malpractice) and general liability risk of the system and employees, as well as eligible affiliated physician groups. The LMP also provides Directors & Officers liability and employment practice liability to all Lifespan entities and their employees.

  • Lifespan Risk Services, Inc. (LRS), is incorporated in Rhode Island and wholly owned by Lifespan. LRS is responsible for all underwriting, loss prevention and claim activities done on behalf of the LMP.
