Biochemistry

The division of biochemistry at Rhode Island Hospital and The Miriam Hospital offers a wide range of high-quality diagnostic and prognostic testing for both STAT and routine assays using Beckman chemistry analyzers. Staffed by highly qualified biochemists, the division employs the latest state-of-the-art immunochemistry utilizing chemiluminescence technologies. The automated core laboratory, located at The Miriam Hospital, is equipped with a robotic automated biochemistry lab, which processes a large number of outreach/physician's office specimens for a wide variety of biochemistry assays.

The division offers:

• Basic metabolic chemistry screening, enzyme profiles, CSF and urine chemistry measurements, drugs of abuse, and therapeutic drug monitoring using Beckman chemistry analyzers.
• Measurement of cardiac markers, cancer markers, thyroid hormone profiles, endocrine measurements, vitamins, free hormone levels, thyroid antibodies, pituitary hormones and special hormone assays utilizing chemiluminescence technologies.
• Rapid turnaround time for STAT and routine test requests.
• The ability to provide "add-on" test requests.
