Dr. Cu-Uvin is an associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology and Medicine at Brown Medical School. After her training in obstetrics and gynecology, she completed a fellowship in HIV/AIDS. She is the director of The Miriam Hospital's Immunology Center, which provides comprehensive care to over a thousand women and men living with HIV/AIDS.

Dr. Cu-Uvin is the principal investigator of a National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases-funded study on antiretroviral therapy and HIV in the genital tract of women (R01AI040350). She was a co-investigator in the HIV Epidemiology Research Study (HERS), a study on the natural history of HIV in women, funded by the Centers for Disease Control. Dr. Cu-Uvin has collaborated with other researchers on issues of mucosal immunity (5 R21-AI048133), HIV Prevention Trials Network (HPTN) vaginal microbicide studies, and sexually transmitted diseases. She is the Vice-chair of the Women's Health Committee of the ACTG. She is a member of the Perinatal Working Working Group of the HPTN. She is also a member of the perinatal and the OB subcommittee of the Pediatric ACTG.

She was a member of the Committee on HIV Perinatal Transmission, Institute of Medicine, National Academy of Sciences and co-author of the book Reducing the Odds: Preventing Perinatal Transmission of HIV in the United States. She is a member of the scientific advisory group for the Global Microbicide Project. She is also a member of the National Institutes of Health’s planning committee on microbicides and HIV in women and girls. She is on the editorial board of the Journal of Women's Health.
