Dr.
Goh seeks to study the cellular pathways HIV has co-opted
for its replication and to explore novel ways of interfering
with the replication of HIV by targeting these cellular pathways.
The specific aims are as follows: 1) test the relevance of
this association of Vpr function and HIV replication in mammalian
cells, 2) to identify what other cellular proteins associate
with Vpr in infected cells, and 3) to investigate and characterize
the proliferation of infected primary CD4 cells in vivo. Dr.
Goh’s study attempts to study the function of the vpr
gene and to explore if interfering with the cell cycle will
impact HIV replication.
