All AgesParents of children of all ages should:

    • Give children lots of warm, physical contact and attention. This will give them a sense of security and well-being.
    • Talk, sing and play while dressing, bathing, playing with and feeding young children.
    • Be aware of your child's moods by reading their gestures, faces and sounds.
    • Respond to your child when he or she is upset and when they are happy.
    • Read together and tell stories daily. This should become part of your child's bedtime routine.
    • Try to speak second languages.
    • Avoid television for children under two years of age. Instead, spend time playing together.
    • For children over two years, limit television and video time to no more than one to two hours per day. This viewing should be educational.
    • Why should television be limited?
