Hasbro Children's Hospital
General Academic
Pediatrics Fellowship
A message from the director
Dear Potential Applicant:
Thank you for your interest in the general academic pediatrics
fellowship at Brown Medical School and Rhode Island Hospital/Hasbro
Children's Hospital. Our fellowship provides a background in fundamental
research principles, biostatistics and clinical epidemiology with
both didactic and practical experience. In addition, it provides
experience in teaching (didactic and experiential) and consulting
responsibilities with regard to the training of Brown University
students and residents in pediatrics. There is also a component
of direct and autonomous patient care.
The fellowship is quite flexible and is designed to meet the educational
needs of the individual participant. For example, several fellows
have elected to pursue interests in adolescent medicine and one
of our previous fellows has remained with us as director of a teen-tot
clinic. Others have had interest in behavioral/developmental pediatrics
or health services and their research has been focused in these
areas.
At the present time, we have seven academic generalists (in addition
to four clinician-educators) all of whom either have PhDs or further
subspecialty training in general academic pediatrics, behavioral/developmental
pediatrics, child psychiatry and/or public health. Every major pediatric
specialty is represented in the department of pediatrics and fellows
from all of the pediatric specialties participate in a core curriculum
on research sponsored by the department. As well, there would be
opportunities to take additional course work on the Brown University
campus, including for the MPH degree, as some of our previous fellows
have opted to do.
The State of Rhode Island is the smallest state in the Union yet
boasts some of the most beautiful coastline and nautical recreational
activities in the United States. We are within a one-hour drive
to Boston and a three-hour drive to New York City. Rhode Island
has a temperate climate and four distinct seasons.
Please contact us for formal fellowship application materials and
information about our program and our hospital, or explore
our information online.
Thank you for your interest in our program.
