Welcome to Hasbro Children's Hospital
Meet the Health Care Team
At
Hasbro Children's Hospital, pediatric staff members and specialists
collaborate to provide the best care possible for our patients.
- There are more than 120 physicians at Hasbro Children's
Hospital. All of our medical and surgical physicians must be board
certified or be eligible for certification in a specialty or subspecialty.
Our hospital-based physicians also have an academic or clinical
faculty appointment at Brown Medical School.
- An attending physician will manage your child's medical
care during hospitalization. This physician will lead your child's
health care team, and will order necessary exams and tests, prescribe
medications and coordinate your child's treatment plan with other
hospital staff.
- Residents will also care for your child while he or she
is in the hospital. Residents are physicians who have graduated
from medical school and are receiving postgraduate training. Residents
are directly responsible for day-today care and are supervised
by senior residents and attending physicians. On duty 24 hours
a day, residents are available to answer questions concerning
your child's care.
- Nurses at Hasbro Children's Hospital are highly trained
and committed to family-centered care. They encourage and welcome
families' participation in their child's care. Most nurses work
on the inpatient care floors, which are divided by age group.
This allows the nurses on each unit to become familiar with the
specific needs of each group. More
about nursing services
- Registered nurses provide your child's daily care,
and ensure your child's comfort and well being during his
or her stay. They check your child's vital signs, monitor
his or her condition, and administer medications.
- Nurse practitioners may help your child's attending
physician conduct physical exams and order medications and
treatments. Nurse practitioners have completed advanced training
in specific areas of pediatrics and are supervised by physicians.
- Physical, occupational and speech therapists work with
children who have developmental or physical disabilities, or have
injuries from trauma. They help patients increase strength and
re-gain their movement so they can return to their regular activities.
- Respiratory therapists assist children with breathing
techniques and respiratory problems.
- Dietitians watch for changes in your child's appetite
and weight and take care of special nutritional needs for food
allergies, medical diet prescriptions, tube feedings and other
conditions. Dietitians also provide nutritional counseling and
education.
- Clinical social workers help children and their families
cope with and adjust to the emotional and social issues of hospitalization.
- Child life specialists work with children to help them
get ready for procedures. They also coordinate activities for
children either in the hospital's playrooms or at the bedside.
- Certified teachers operate a school program with individual
tutoring and classroom lessons.
- Unit secretaries, unit assistants, and dietary,
housekeeping and central transport staff work in various ways
to help during your child's stay.
- Patient representatives are trained volunteers who explain
hospital routines and policies, answer questions about your child's
hospital stay and help resolve issues related to your child's
care. You can request a visit from a patient representative by
calling 401-444-5817, weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Under an instructor's supervision, students from Brown
Medical School and from schools for nursing, respiratory therapy,
physical therapy, child life, nutrition and other health care
professions may help care for your child.
