Fundraising Tips
Use the following tips to help your team kick off a fundraising campaign:
1. Online Fund Raising:
Create your own personal and/or team page that prospective donors can view. Upload your e-mail list and send out your personalized letters inviting potential sponsors to make an online credit card contribution. A recent study of 625 nonprofits showed that participants who raise money online raised an average of $327. Participants raising money offline only raised an average of $55.
2. In Person:
Ask potential donors for a few minutes of their time so that you can talk without interruptions. Remember, you are not asking for the contribution for yourself. Don’t forget the mission of The Walk.
“The Walk is dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children by supporting the programs and services of Hasbro Children’s Hospital.”
3. Telephone:
Be considerate and choose a good time to call. Before you pick up the phone, prepare a script for your call. Personalize your call with your own experience or your personal experience with Hasbro Children’s Hospital.
4. Letter Writing:
Personalize your letter with details about yourself and your reasons for walking. Remember your audience when crafting your letter—tailor it to fit friends, family, business owners, colleagues, etc.
5. Matching Gifts:
Find out whether your company has a matching gift program. If so, your fundraising efforts could easily be doubled. Always remember to ask your sponsors whether their companies will match their donations as well. Bring your form to The Walk registration tent.
6. Businesses You Patronize:
Ask the places you frequent for a donation—such as your hair stylist, dry cleaner, doctor, gym, coffee shop, favorite restaurant, etc.
7. Do a Fundraiser to Support The Walk:
Walkers hold golf tournaments, bake sales, yard sales etc. to raise advance funds.
8. Be Prepared:
Always carry your sponsor form wherever you go. You never know when you will run into a potential contributor!
