The neurosurgery staff at Rhode Island Hospital and its Hasbro Children’s Hospital has special expertise in pediatric neurosurgery; spinal, vascular, and pituitary surgery; and in the comprehensive care of brain tumors, including gamma knife procedures.

Pediatric brain trauma and surgery have been a major focus for Hasbro Children’s Hospital. The gamma knife is a precise and powerful tool for treating certain tumors and vascular malformations in the brain, effectively and without surgery. The clinical care programs extend from fetal care though childhood and adolescence. Intensive basic science research in brain tumors is ongoing at Hasbro Children’s Hospital.

Areas of special expertise include: 

  • seizure disorders (including epilepsy)
  • developmental disorders
  • neurocutaneous disorders (neurofibromatosis), 
  • neuromuscular problems (including muscular dystrophy)
