Child Life Services:
The School at Hasbro Children's Hospital
When the normal pattern of schooling is interrupted due to a child’s hospitalization, it is important for patients to feel that they can continue to be involved with schoolwork.
The goals of the hospital school are:
- To make the transition from hospital back to school as smooth as possible for the patient and classmates.
- To maintain academic involvement with the patient’s home school and teachers.
- To utilize hospitalization as a unique and positive learning experience.
Two classrooms are located in the Hasbro Children’s Hospital. The elementary classroom is geared toward children in grades kindergarten through five. The secondary classroom focuses on adolescents in grades 6 through 12. The educational program offers flexible services to meet the changing needs of the patient population. All school-age patients are encouraged to participate in the hospital school.
