The family room was designed to be a caring and supportive respite area for adult family members of hospitalized ill children, allowing them to rest while remaining near their child. The room provides a few of the comforts from home for all pediatric families. This includes families of patients admitted to the hospital as well as families of children undergoing outpatient surgery. The room offers a quiet place to relax and recharge, have a snack, do laundry or use a computer. Staffed by members of the community who volunteer at the Providence Ronald McDonald House, the family room is a warm, welcoming environment that is intended to feel like home. The Ronald McDonald Family Room is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., based on volunteer staffing and is available to all Hasbro Children's Hospital families.
Partners in funding the creation of the family room include Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern New England, The Holewiak Family and Hasbro Children's Hospital. The room was furnished by Cardi's Furniture Superstores, who have committed to the continual upkeep of the furnishings. Thanks also to Ross Simons retail store for originally naming the room.
